How to remove unwanted hair at-home painlessly I have a confession: when it comes to hair removal I’m borderline lazy. I always opt for the pain-free, fuss-free method. Throughout the winter, if I’m wearing tights, I can go a week without touching a razor. I’ve never used shaving foam and the thought of epilating scares me rigid. I’m not quite ready to go au naturale though. According to Mintel’s most recent report, hair removal is in decline among younger women. While 95 per cent of 19-24-year-olds shaved or waxed their underarms in 2013, by the end of last year there had been an 18 per cent drop, which was coupled with a dip in razor sales. While Mintel cites the rise of the wellness movement and fear of damaging skin with aggressive hair-removal processes, there are two other factors contributing to the decline of shaving and waxing. Firstly, more celebrities are embracing the natural look in public – in January, Lola Kirke revealed hairy armpits at the Golden Globes. Secondly, laser hair removal is more affordable and accessible. The latter used to be restricted to those who had light skin tones and dark hair, but an advance in technology has enabled newer machines to provide results across the board. ‘The latest devices are more precise and faster,’ says laser expert and skin specialist Debbie Thomas. ‘Plus, they’re better at cooling down the skin, which results in safer, less painful treatments.’ With improved in-salon machines, it’s no surprise that at-home devices have also come on dramatically. Iluminage’s Touch Permanent Hair Reduction Device is expensive but promises a 94 per cent hair reduction in six weeks. While I can’t vouch for the dramatic results, I can say, after using it twice in so many weeks, that it’s virtually painless, save for a slight tingle, and it takes around 15 minutes to do both legs. Plus, you can use it while watching TV, which works nicely for someone who likes a bit of distraction from the hair-removal process. bridesmaid dresses under 100 | vintage bridesmaid dresses uk
