Holiday Fashion Travel Hacks (2016.12.21)

Whether you're escaping to a tropical island, hitting the ski slopes or just driving over the roads and through the woods for an overnighter with the family, this holiday season, you'll want to travel in style...and comfort. Here are a few tricks to pack away for now and later: —Always remember less is more. When it comes to planning your travel wardrobe, make sure you take some time to think through your itinerary. Even if you just plan to hang out on the beach and sip a few margaritas, you still need a plan. It's easy at this hectic time of year to wait until the last minute to just throw everything but the jewelry box into your suitcase. —Obviously, if you're going to a ski resort, your packing list will be different and require a little bit more space than a few bikinis. But if you can get away with taking only a lightweight backpack or duffle bag, then go for it. Mail your holiday packages ahead of time and you won't have to deal with the extra bulk. Or better yet, take gift cards. You'll be glad you did when you can skip the hassle of checking your luggage. —Dress smart not sloppy. It's tempting to just throw on a pair of yoga pants and a sweatshirt, but unless you're four years old and still writing wish lists to Santa, you might forget jamming in your jammies on the way to Grandma's house. You never know when you might be in a real jam and delayed for hours (hopefully not days) at the airport. And even worse, if your luggage gets lost...well, you might have to resort to skinny dipping in the hotel pool at your own risk. —Knits are a hit. Yes, you can get style, comfort and wrinkle-free all wrapped up in a few key pieces that will give you that chic look sans wrinkles. Think knits — jerseys, even some synthetics — that you can just roll up and stick in your luggage. Wear a sleek pair of leggings and a great tunic sweater on your flight or in the car. —If you need a coat, wear it; ditto for heavy boots. These are items you don't want to have to pack if you don't have to. They take up valuable space in your suitcase. If it's snowing when you take off on a trip to much warmer destinations, then consider wearing a light sweater under a vest, rather than taking a heavy coat. Pack a pair of flat sandals in your carry-on that you can wear when you land. —The trick is to make your travel essentials do double duty. Multi-tasking is key when you dress for a trip, especially a long one. Make sure you take pieces that mix and match. Versatility is important. A short jersey dress can cover up a bathing suit; a long cardigan sweater can be dressed up for dinner with a silky camisole. An oversized blanket scarf is the perfect way to keep warm on a chilly plane. —Black is always a good choice for a travel wardrobe. Coffee spills anyone? Then add in some personality with a special piece — a colorful sweater, a metallic skirt, a printed blouse — that will give you a break from the big black-out. And if you're in a sunny locale, then opt for a pair of white pants or stylish shorts. —Work those accessories. When you're trying to pack it all in, it's the little things that can really count. You can dress up or down a look instantly just with a statement necklace or a fabulous faux fur scarf. For a holiday vibe, add a pair of sparkly chandelier earrings. After all, what's better than a little glamour on your getaway...no matter where you may roam? black bridesmaid dresses uk | cheap bridesmaid dresses
